About BKI

Banyankole Kweterana International (BKI) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, cultural organization, non-political organization established in 2019 and registered in the State of California under the Names Banyankole Kweterana International and also as BKI California organization.

The organization was founded around 2014 by Banyankole men and women in Southern California in the City of Los Angeles. The chief architects of the organization were Edward Kabateraine (First President), David Kabukuru,(Current President) Herbert Bagoro (Current Vice President) Charles Wamala ( Current Treasurer) , Edison Bandeeba (Advisor), and were accompanied by youth leaders Sandra Najuna, Sheila Namara & Jolanda Atuhumwize (Current Organization Secretary). Other influential participants in the concept of the organization were Pross Bahinyoza, Enid Mwebaze and Rev. Onesmus who currently serve on BKI executive committee.
Our Mission
The motto of the organization is “Ageteraine nigo gata eigufa” loosely translated “those who are united have enough strength to break a bone”. As such our core mission is first and foremost to bring Banyankole together in diaspora and use this organization platform or launch pad to:
  • Preserve and protect our Ankole culture by teaching our children and
helping them in being aware and proud of their heritage.
  • Discuss and formulate ideas of economic development of Ankole region
and Uganda at large by harnessing Banyankole resources and
opportunities in Diaspora.
  • Support various Associations of Banyankole including promoting
spiritual fellowship for various denominations under the umbrella and
protocols of BKI organization.
  • Hold annual Conventions in various regions of the Diaspora to network
while we foster the vision of our organization.

Our is to unite all Banyankole and their families living in diaspora for preservation of Ankole culture, social and economic development of Banyankole and Ankole region. Maintain a strong network of fellow Banyankole worldwide through various platforms and programs.
