About Us

Banyankole Kweterana International (BKI) is a global nonprofit cultural and community organization for Banyankole people and friends of Ankole. Rooted in shared heritage, culture, history and aspirations, BKI exists to strengthen unity, preserve identity, encourage mutual support and advance social, educational, cultural, humanitarian and economic development.

BKI brings together Banyankole people worldwide and welcomes friends of Ankole who support its mission. It operates for charitable, educational, cultural, humanitarian and community-development purposes, with a long-term responsibility to future generations.

The organization encourages the preservation and promotion of Runyankole as an important part of Banyankole cultural heritage while using English as its official organizational language.

Membership exists through recognized chapters. BKI is open to persons of Banyankole heritage by birth or descent, individuals married into the Banyankole community, and friends of Ankole who support the organization's mission and objectives.

BKI welcomes people of all faiths and those of no religious affiliation, and it does not discriminate on the basis of race, nationality, gender, religion, disability, age or political affiliation.

BKI seeks to connect and support chapters, strengthen cultural identity, promote educational excellence and scholarship opportunities, encourage entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, support members during bereavement, illness and emergencies, develop strategic partnerships and promote peace, friendship, cooperation and goodwill.

The Annual Convention, where held, brings members, chapters, leaders, youth, families, partners and friends of Ankole together for cultural celebration, fellowship, education, organizational development and community impact.
